Competition Closing Date – Textures & Patterns
Entry to this competition will be open up to midnight Sunday 28th February 2027
Textures & Patterns all about spotting the details that often get overlooked.
Think about surfaces you can almost feel just by looking at them, or repeating shapes that catch your eye. This could be anything from peeling paint, rough stone, tree bark, fabrics, rust, or even everyday objects arranged in an interesting way.
Patterns can be natural or man-made — rows of windows, paving stones, shadows, reflections, or waves on water. You can go abstract or keep it recognisable, it’s entirely up to you.
A few ideas to get you started:
• Look for contrast (smooth vs rough, light vs shadow)
• Try getting in close or using macro if you have it
• Play with angles to emphasise repetition
• Black and white can really bring out texture
There’s no right or wrong approach — just aim to create an image where texture or pattern is the main focus.Judge will be Margaret Elliot
